With the continued expansion of the use of the internet, and with more technology available to Virginians, more and more taxpayers are demanding that government be transparent. The Governor’s Commission on Government Reform and Restructuring has focused on this issue and is encouraging the state to make available more and more information — including financial information in a format that permits the user to easily compare costs and maneuver between agencies and programs. These three papers were originally published by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University and clearly outline why governments should be more transparent and how to do it.
