The Fourth Annual “Excellence in Education ” Policy Luncheon

sponsored by

The Thomas Jefferson Institute for Public Policy

Wednesday, November 16, 2005 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm

(during a break at the Virginia School Boards Association meeting)

Williamsburg Marriott Hotel 50 Kingsmill Road Williamsburg, VA

Registration: $15 (prior to November 1; $25 after November 1)

The federal No Child Left Behind Act has been controversial from the start, attracting opposition – and support -from across the political spectrum. In 2007, its reauthorization will come before Congress – but the time for a serious discussion about reforming NCLB needs to take place now, rather than two years from now.

Local School Board members are frequently looked upon as educational policy experts, and they need to be informed (and to inform others) about the law and its impact. That’s why the Thomas Jefferson Institute for Public Policy is hosting a luncheon panel on NCLB, to be held on the first day of the Virginia School Boards Association Convention – at a time when no other VSBA meetings or functions are scheduled. We’ll feature a discussion between –

Hon. Mickey Vanderwerker, vice chair of the Bedford County School Board and cofounder of Parents Across Virginia to Reform the SOLs (PAVRSOL).

Michael Petrilli, Vice President for National Programs and Policy at the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation, and former Associate Assistant Deputy Education Secretary.

Neal McCluskey, a former high school English teacher and currently education policy analyst for the Cato Institute.

YES! I want to attend the Thomas Jefferson Institute’s fourth annual “Excellence in Education” policy luncheon to learn more about the federal No Child Left Behind Act. I have enclosed my registration fee of $ 15 ($25 after November 1), payable to “The Thomas Jefferson Institute.”
