New Survey: Virginians Support Off Shore Drilling — 1/29/2018 -- A new public survey conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategies on behalf of the Thomas Jefferson Institute shows that Virginians support off shore drilling for oil and natural gas by a 55 percent to 39 percent margin.

Time For a Sweeter Deal on Sugar — When it comes to the sugar trade, there is no free market.  But there should be.  And this paper lays out a proposal that could take U.S. business and consumers on the path  to a level playing field -- one that should appeal to those on the right who favor free markets, those on the left who want fewer government supports for agriculture, and budget hawks who worry about possible future costs from the sugar price support program.  Not coincidentally, it could also provide a template for making better trade deals in other areas.

Thompson on WRVA, Washington Post: Inova Fumbled Redskins Naming Rights Deal — Writing in The Washington Post and appearing on Jimmy Barrett's morning show on WRVA, Jefferson Institute Chairman and President Mike Thompson pointed out the inconsistency of the non-profit Inova Health Systems spending funds to gain naming rights to the Redskins' training facility and headquarters while pleading poverty while demanding taxpayer-funded Medicaid expansion and opposing anti-competitive health practices.  (8/16/2016)
