How a Virtual School Might Benefit Your Students and Your School Division
How a Virtual School Might Benefit Your Students and Your School Division — Last your, Carroll County Public Schools' Virginia Virtual Academy instructed 100 elementary school students.  This year, the school is attracting 400 students -- from more than 70 school divisions throughout the state.  They joined more than 175,000 full-time students in full-time online schools in our nation.

A new 2010 law makes it easier to start a virtual school, and our November 17 Education Policy Luncheon will consider important questions to help School Boards and Superintendents decide on the creation of a virtual school:  What are the finances of a virtual school?  What financial support is offered by the state?  How are students taught long distance?  What is the academic performance of students taught "virtually?"

Speakers include --

  • Dr. James "Greg" Smith, Superintendent of Carroll County Public Schools
  • Suzanne Sloane, Head of School for the Virginia Virtual Academy
  • Beverly A. Parker, Director of School Improvement, Accountability and Testing for CCPS

This Ninth Annual Education Policy Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, November 17, at The Williamsburg Lodge, located at 310 South England Street.  Luncheon fees are only $25.

Join the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Ronald Reagan's Historic Inauguration ... and the Start of the 'Reagan Revolution!'
Join the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Ronald Reagan's Historic Inauguration ... and the Start of the 'Reagan Revolution!' — This Celebration of Ronald Reagan's victory and Inauguration has now been cancelled, to avoid competing with the Reagan Alumni Association's February 3 Celebration of President Reagan's Birthday.  A refund will be mailed to those who purchased tickets within a few days.

Inauguration Day 1981 represented more than just a new Presidency:  It marked the beginning of a truly bi-partisan revolution that involved Republicans of all stripes and what came to be known as “Reagan Democrats.”  It was a revolution that  offered clear purpose and a clear platform and resulted in years of economic growth and victory over America’s  primary foreign policy adversaries.  We gather not just to celebrate that inauguration, but to remind ourselves of what can be accomplished when there is a clear and coherent vision and a plan for what the victors want to accomplish.

Join the Thomas Jefferson Institute for a special celebration on Friday, January 21, 2011, in Old Town Alexandria, with Keynoter former Attorney General Ed Meese (invited), Remarks by former Congressman Kent Hance (D-TX), Master of Ceremonies Fred Barnes, and Reception Chair former Governor George Allen, and booksigning by Reagan Campaign Biographer Craig Shirley!
