2007 Innovations in Government Conference: Modernizing Government Through Better Practices -- December 2007

With a state budget deficit staring at elected officials, perhaps nothing is more important than gaining efficiency, transparency and results out of existing funds. On December 17, the Thomas Jefferson Institute is teaming up with the nationally-recognized Mercatus Center at George Mason University to look at the issue and hear from highly knowledgeable experts, including --

  • Dr. Jerry Ellig, senior research fellow at Mercatus and former senior economist for the Joint Economic Committee of Congress;
  • Honorable Maurice McTigue, Director of the Mercatus Government Accountability Project and a former member of the New Zealand Parliament;
  • Honorable Jody Wagner, Virginia Secretary of Finance;
  • Honorable Aneesh Chopra Virginia Secretary of Technology;
  • Honorable William Leighty, former Chief of Staff to Governors Mark Warner and Timothy Kaine;
  • Delegate Chris Saxman, Chairman of the General Assembly Cost Cutting Caucus;
  • Phil Bomersheim, former Executive Director of the Commonwealth Competition Council.

    This "Innovations in Government Conference" takes place at the Dominion Reources offices located at 701 East Cary Street in Richmond. There is no registration fee for government employees or state legislators. Non-government employees pay a $25 registration fee.
